Part of the Images of War series
The North Africa campaign of the Second World War is synonomous with 'The Desert Fox' Erwin Rommel and his Afrika Corps. It conjurs up scenes of armies living a nomadic existance in the baron wastelands of Libya and Tunisia, knocked out vehicles left by the wayside, tented camps and troop carriers crammed full with weary infantry men.
Rommel's Dessert Warriors is a collection of photographs taken during 1941 - 1942. Many of the grainy black and white images were taken by rank and file soldiers which adds a feel of authenticity to the book. Many have never been published before.
Every type of scene is covered here, Rommel and his officers, tanks, street scenes, the locals, tented camps, a section on the Luftwaffe, all depicting the all powerful Afrika Corps.
There is an 8 page colour segment displaying the World War 2 uniforms and equipment of both the German and Italian armies during the campaign.
Each image is accompanied by a caption explaining it's subject.
This is a book that WW2 military historians, modelers, reenactors and general enthusiasts will enjoy.
